恶魔
A horned, bat-winged figure crouches atop a black pedestal where two naked human figures stand chained. Yet look closely — the chains around their necks are loose enough to lift over their heads. They could free themselves at any time but choose not to. The Devil holds an inverted torch in his left hand, its flame pointing downward, representing the destructive use of power. The inverted pentagram above his head symbolizes the triumph of matter over spirit. The man's tail ends in flames (desire), the woman's in a cluster of grapes (addiction to pleasure). The Devil represents the shadow self — the parts of our nature we prefer to deny. It speaks of addiction, materialism, and the bondage we willingly submit to out of fear, comfort, or habit. Yet this card is ultimately empowering: it reveals that our chains are of our own making. The first step toward freedom is recognizing what holds us captive.
