The Hierophant

The Hierophant sits between two grey pillars within a sacred temple, wearing the triple crown of the three worlds — conscious, subconscious, and superconscious. Two acolytes kneel before him, representing the transmission of sacred knowledge from teacher to student. He raises his right hand in a gesture of blessing, two fingers pointing skyward and two toward earth. In his left hand he holds the triple cross of the papal office. The crossed keys at his feet represent the keys to heaven — the balance of conscious and subconscious understanding. The Hierophant is the bridge between heaven and earth, the keeper of spiritual traditions and conventional wisdom. He represents established institutions, formal education, and the guidance we seek from mentors and traditions. When this card appears, consider what traditions serve you and which ones need to be questioned.
